Any flick
featuring mistaken identity, rumors gone horribly wrong, double-crossing
hookers, abused exchange students, a guy looking for his copy of
Steel
Magnolias, and a dude with a big French sausage can't be
all bad, right?
Dorm
Daze has about 10 plots going all at once and though it
seems impossible, somehow all the stories collide and everything
works out. Credit that to brother directing team, David and
Scott Hillenbrand, whose first foray into comedy is actually
an entertaining romp that harkens back to day of grand old farce.
Full of slapstick and mistaken identity, the eager actors manage
to keep the pace going full force, even if the ridiculous situations
dictate otherwise.

Dude,
those chicks are totally makin' out!

Featuring several
wonderful up and coming actors (including the cute Cameron Richardson
who can be spotted in all her bikini glory on Point Pleasant),
the standout here is Boti Bliss as the conniving hooker Dominique.
She becomes the main focus of the film and steals every scene. I
was sorely disappointed with her turn in Bundy, but here
she's charismatic and pretty friggin' funny.
And what would
any modern farce be without a lesbian makeout scene? Unfortunately,
one of the key participants is very plastic looking and the scene
itself seems totally without context. That aside, there's much to
praise about Dorm Daze, which actually wrangled a small theatrical
release before hitting DVD via 20th Century Fox. Luckily, they added
lots of fun features including a commentary, a featurette and tons
of other stuff to keep the good times rolling.
While it's not
Shakespeare (and would we really want that from National Lampoon?)
it is much better than the tawdry DVD cover art would lead you to
believe. Check it out.
