This here is your classic Italian women-in-prison sleaze epic. Available
on video in different forms over the years (you may have seen it as
Escape, Hellfire on Ice 2, or Savage Island with
Linda Blair footage cut in), it is now available in its original form
thanks to the folks at Troma.

The
film details the struggles of a bunch of attractive, scantily clad
(or just plain unclad) female prisoners who are being used as slave
labor to clear a path through the jungle (why is not important). The
camp is run by a sadistic, germ-obsessed warden and his depraved guards.
The only voice of reason is Doctor Farrell (Anthony Steffen), who
blocks out the horrors around him by getting drunk on J&B and
listening to classical music L.P.'s. The prisoners are headed up by
black transsexual Ajita Wilson, Latina honey Christina Lay, and some
blonde chick with gigantic breasts. When the rape, torture, catfights,
and hot lesbian sex gets to be too much, the doctor helps the women
escape. What ensues is a treacherous jungle adventure involving quicksand,
deadly snakes, and bloodsucking leeches. In other words, this is an
excellent first date movie.
The DVD itself is unglamorous, as the film seems to have been transferred
straight from the 80's Wizard Video edition. The extras are all Troma-related,
with no additional info available on the actual film itself. Still,
it's nice to know that Escape From Hell will now be preserved for
the enjoyment of future generations, or at least until the next technological
advancement renders the DVD format obsolete.
