Former gay porn auteur Tom DeSimone directed this enjoyable 1986 send-up
of the women-in-prison genre. The plot concerns Jenny (Lisa Carol),
a young woman who gets sent to reform school and has to deal with
evil matron Edna (John Waters regular Pat Ast) and tough dyke Charlie
(Wendy O. Williams, late singer of the Plasmatics). Along to spice
up the cast are Sybil Danning as the sadistic warden, future Little
Mermaid figure model Sherri Stoner as the fragile Lisa, and Charlotte
McGinnis as the sympathetic shrink.

Despite
being a tongue-in-cheek parody, Reform School Girls succeeds as a
fine addition to the heritage of chicks-in-chains flicks. There is
enough sex and violence here to piss off humorless feminists, and
enough campy fun to please jaded gay porn fans. Wendy O. looks about
twenty years older than her supposedly teenaged character, Sybil fails
to use her sexy riding crop on any of the girls, and the inmates wear
lingerie even though they've had their clothing confiscated and been
issued prison uniforms. Still, such mistakes are easily overlooked
when you take into consideration the gratuitous ass branding, fire
hose torture, and group shower scenes that await the lucky viewer.
The DVD is a real treat, with impressive slamming-jail-cell-doors
menus and silly photos of the cast and director.
